Running Physical Therapy on the South Shore

Get Back on the Road and Stay There

Race on the calendar. Knee flaring up every time you hit the pavement. We help South Shore runners find the actual cause of their injury and build a plan that gets them back to full mileage safely.

Running Through It Isn't Working

Rest only gets you so far

You took a few weeks off and it felt better, until you started back up. The pain isn't going away on its own, and your race isn't waiting around.

You've been told to just stop running

Generic advice to rest and stretch doesn't get you to the finish line. You need a plan specific to your mechanics, your training load, and your timeline.

The same injury keeps coming back

You recover, ramp back up, and then the same knee or achilles flares again. Without addressing the root cause, the cycle doesn't end.

Common Conditions We Treat

Injuries We Help Runners Overcome

From IT band syndrome to plantar fascia pain, we address the running injuries sidelining South Shore athletes and the mechanical root causes that keep them from staying healthy through training.

Runner's Knee (Patellofemoral Pain) - Anterior knee pain that worsens with mileage, stairs, or downhill running and keeps you cutting runs short.

IT Band Syndrome - Lateral knee pain that builds mid-run and shuts you down before you hit your target distance.

Achilles Tendinopathy - Stiffness or aching at the back of the heel that makes the first miles of every run a grind.

Plantar Fasciitis - Heel pain worst in the morning or after long sits that limits your mileage and disrupts your daily routine.

Shin Splints - Lower leg pain that builds with every mile and forces you to cut training short before your goal pace.

Hip Pain in Runners - Glute, hip flexor, or deep hip pain that alters your stride and compounds over long runs.

Hamstring Strains - Recurring pulls in the back of the thigh that keep resetting your training cycle and pace goals.

What Runners Are Saying

Sam is seriously the best physical therapist out there! As an American Ninja Warrior competitor, I’ve dealt with my fair share of ankle and shoulder injuries, and Sam has been incredible every step of the way. He really takes the time to understand the demands of my sport and tailors everything to what I need. He’s super flexible, always adjusts to how I’m feeling that day, and gives me exercises I can actually keep up with outside of PT too. I’ve seen so much improvement thanks to him — couldn’t recommend him more!

I injured my left shoulder via general overuse in August of 2024. I couldn't bench press, overhead press, or do push ups without serious pain. I even had pain in everyday life (getting out of bed, pulling clothes overhead, etc). The injury proved itself to be quite stubborn - after seeing another PT for months with no improvement, I was about to give up and accept that I would just have this limitation forever. I met Sam at the gym (Lifted in Hanover) in November of 2024 and decided to give him a shot after glowing reviews from others at the gym. I saw him weekly for a couple months and under his guidance and expertise, was back to doing what I used to in the gym with minimal pain in just a couple months. A few months after that I was totally pain free in everyday life, and I even was able to increase weight at the gym. Last month marks a year after my injury and I couldn't be happier with where I am today. I wish I had taken before and after videos because it is a night and day difference. If you have an injury that is stubborn to fix, I promise you Sam is your guy!

I have been working with Sam for about 4-5 months now at Moses Fitness in Hanover on my shoulder and this is the most improvement I’ve ever seen. I have been suffering with chronic pain for over 7 years from a college sports injury & Sam is the first PT to help me alleviate pain (which feels like a miracle). He is extremely knowledgeable and flexible with your personal schedule. I am currently on a long term month to month plan to ensure I keep up with progress and he constantly is checking in, which is more than your typical PT would do. I would recommend Sam to anyone who is looking for physical therapy! Thank you Sam!

Frequently Asked Questions

Running injuries come with a lot of questions. Here are the ones we hear most from South Shore runners.

Can I keep running while I do PT?

In most cases, yes. We'll assess where you are and modify your training load rather than shutting you down completely. The goal is to keep you moving safely while we address what's causing the issue.

Is a gait analysis actually worth it?

Yes, especially for recurring injuries. Most running injuries have a mechanical component: something in your stride that's overloading a tissue. Without looking at how you actually run, it's easy to treat the symptom and miss the cause. The gait analysis helps us target the right things from day one.

How long until I can race again?

It depends on the injury, how long it's been going on, and where you are in your training cycle. After your evaluation, Sam will give you a realistic timeline based on your specific situation not a generic estimate pulled from a chart.

Do I need a referral to get started?

No referral needed. Massachusetts is a direct access state, so you can start PT and your gait analysis without seeing a doctor first. Just reach out and we'll get you set up.

What if I've already been told my injury isn't serious?

A lot of runners get a quick evaluation and are told nothing is structurally wrong but the pain persists. Sam focuses on load management, mechanics, and strength rather than imaging findings alone. If you're still hurting, there's usually a reason we can find and address.
